Psychogeography: A Purposeful Drift Through the City

There was a point made at the end of this article, about how psychogeography is a way of remaking the world around you, that I think is relevant to contemporary art. This way of taking in your surroundings, one that relies on how you feel when moving about or entering a space, closely relates to the ideas of surrealism. Surrealist art is created by allowing one's subconscious thoughts and feelings to come to the surface, to make on instinct rather than from intent. Each artist is able to utilize there own psyche to bring something new to the art world by allowing personal experiences to guide motivations and processes. Art is about taking the world around you and interpreting it in specific ways, and this is the entire basis of psychogeography.
